Research Proposal Draft
1. How can the air intake of a 4-stroke combustion engine be tuned to increase power and
torque?
2. Questions:
a. What is the ideal shape of an air intake for the best performance?
b. How does diameter of the tube affect performance?
c. How does the length of the tube affect performance?
d. What philosophies of tune should be employed for rallying VS asphalt?
e. What is the best way to create a bend in the intake without losing performance?
f. What small details can tighten up performance?
3. I know for a fact that a straight tube is best for the engine. i am interested in how
diameter, lengths, and bends affect that same equation. Different motors are tuned for
different philosophies. Im most interested in rally cars and street cars. All of my cars
have tuned intakes which make a little power but I really am trying to get the most out of
those modifications. I have tuned my daily driver to make a considerable amount of
torque only thats taken about $200 in R&D. I want to find the solution for this so I can
stop wasting money.
