Features of SEZ Act 2012

Special Economic Zones (SEZ) Act 2012 is the main cornerstone of investment
policy 2013. This will encourage clusterization of industries and will provide liberal
investment opportunities to attract foreign investments in the country as well. The
benefits of SEZ will be:
1. Reduce cost of doing business in Pakistan
2. Enhance productivity of different organizations
3. Help in economic development and therefore reduce poverty
The policy is approved by the parliament and will be applicable all over Pakistan.
1. The government shall establish SEZs by itself or in collaboration with private
parties under different modes of partnerships
2. There shall be Board of Approvals headed by the Prime Minister of Pakistan
along with other members. The board may grant additional benefits if
justified
3. Every province will have its own SEZ Authority which will be headed by Chief
Minister or any person nominated by the CM
4. Any zone can avail only one set of objectives i.e. once benefits granted they
cannot be changed.
5. Zone developers will have duty free import of capital goods, maintenance
of zones and project within it.
6. Income tax exemption to developers and enterprises will be applicable for
10 years
7. Board of investment (BOI) will provide one window solutions
8. Captive power generation allowed to zone developers and excess can be
sold.

Industrial States
Following are industrial states currently present:
Quaid e Azam Industrial Estate:
Formerly it was known as Kot lakput industrial state. The project was started in
1960s and is spread over 565 acres
Sundar Industrial Estate
It comprises of 1700 acres of and was inaugurated in Feb, 2007. There are 255
factories in production as of Oct, 2012 and an additional 190 were expected to join
by 2013
Multan Industrial Estate
Phase 1 of the industrial state was completed in the 1980s. In 2004 the GoP
formally handed over MIE to Punjab industrial estates to stat industrial activity. It
consists of about 1410 acres of land

Bhalwal Industrial Estate


This state would consist of 400 acres of land and is located at 19KM Bhalwal Bhera
Road, Bhalwal
Rahimyar Khan Industrial Estate
It consists of 458 acres of land and was started in 2002. It is located about 20KM
away from Rahimyar Khan towards Sadiqabad on main National Highway
Vehari Industrial Estate
It is located at 6Km form Vehari city towards Pakpattan canal on khanewal Vehari
Road. The project will be completed by March 2015.
