FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE District Contact: Patty Miller, communications coordinator 936-569-5000, ext. 8845 (office) pmiller@nacisd.org Written By: Symantha Dickens Communication Intern The Gifted and Talented Education program will hold the second Imagination Fair on October 20 for grades 1-3 at the Nacogdoches County Exposition Center. Students tell stories in an interactive way as well as listening to stories from professional storytellers. Toni Simmons, a professional storyteller will be kicking off with the second story reading of the day. Prior to this event the students research the variety of forms and genres of storytelling and the impact it has on history and different cultures. Toni has conducted many storytelling, creative dramatic and movement workshops in schools, community centers and theaters, along with helping teachers to incorporate the arts into their curriculum. The story telling consists of various aspects, such as tone of voice and facial expressions. The students chose a story of their choice and are asked to memorize and present at the Imagination Fair. The storytelling will be judged based on storytelling skills, clarity and how detailed the student portrayed the story. Students are split in to groups that consist of students from other schools. They are then given a box that contains materials such as paper towel roll, clothes pins and other house hold items. Students must then read their task card and complete the task using these materials. The Imagination Fair provides Gifted and Talented students the opportunity to compete and showcase their abilities with their peers said GT,RTI and Testing Coordinator, Jo Lynn Corley. Region 7 currently serves 106 school districts, which is the largest amount of school districts of any Education Service Center in the state. In all there are three other sessions that will take place in the Nacogdoches area that surrounding schools and districts can attend. The UIL completion will be January 11-14 2016.
