bul INSTITUTE FOR PROMOTION OF MATHEMATICS ABOUT THE INSTITUTE Institute for Promotion of Mathematics is a unique Institute working since 1996 for school going children. We, at the Institute realize and understand that the present education set-up does not give the students enough opportunity to tackle mathematical problems outside the routine path of school examinations. Hence the Mathematics Scholarship Examination syllabus comprises of thought provoking and challenging topics, thus exposing some fascinating facets of mathematics. The syllabus strives towards making the generally dreaded Maths Fun & Easy. In the course of time students learn to analyse problems fast and anticipate results soon. Fast calculations help the students to perform well in school and in competitive entrance examination at various stages. The question papers are set keeping in mind the competitive exams that children face later. The exposure that children are givenis very helpful, while facing the competitive entrance exams , which in turn improve performance. The Institute conducts the All India Open Mathematics Scholarship Examination for Std. I, Il, IV, V VI, VII, Vill and IX and awards Scholarship, Trophies /Mementoes to the top 150/251 students of each standard to honour and inspire them In the past 19 years of conducting the Mathematics Scholarship Examination, the Institute has awarded a whopping Rs. 66,13,700/- to about 19336 students and also have awarded a trip to Thailand for the top six students & the Principals of the top School of each section (IV to IX) on completion of the Institute's 10 years. OBJECTIVES 1. Tomake the solving of mathematical problems a joyful activity and in general to sharpen a child's mathematical skills. 2. To test not the mechanical part of problem solving, but a child's ability to understand the basic concepts on various topics and their application. 3. To emphasize mental arithmetic which is essential for quick and clear thinking 4, To encourage and prepare young students to appear for various Mathematics Competitive Examination and to inculcate in them an ambition to succeed in such competitive examination from an early age. 5. To honor and inspire the Meritorious students by awarding Scholarship, Prizes, Mementoes & Certificates. WHY STUDY MATHS? Mathematics equips students with knowledge essential to many careers : Problem solving, logical thinking and analytical skills and enhanced by the study of Mathematics. Mathematics students are equipped with resourcefulness and creativity in analysing huge variety of situations. The ability to learn and adapt to new developments is also enhanced by the study of mathematics, Mathematical skills represent a way of thinking and are highly flexible. They lead to exciting and challenging careers which are extremely diverse in nature. Mathematicians and Statisticians are among the graduates with the highest starting salaries and have the lowest unemployment rates. Mathematics enchance a person's ability to handle the more ambiguous and qualitative relationships that dominate our day-to-day decision making. What is Mathematics Scholarship Examination 7 Mathematics Scholarship Examination is a Competitive Examination conducted by the Institute for Promotion of Mathematics for various standards where the mathematical skills, mental ability ,calculation speed, critical analysis and accuracy of a child & application of short-cut methods are tested... Who is Eligible? Any student studying in Std. Il to IX of any Recognized School with S. S. C., |. C. S. E., C.B.S.E. & | B. or any other Board Pattern, is eligible to appear for the All India Open Mathematics Scholarship Examination For Std. Il Students must Not have completed 9 years of age For Sid, Ill ‘Students must Not have completed 10 years of age. For Std. IV Students must Not have completed 11 years of age. For Sid, V ‘Students must Not have completed 12 years of age. For Std. VI ‘Students must Not have completed 13 years of age. For Std. Vil ‘Students must Not have completed 14 years of age. For Std. Vill ‘Students must Not have completed 15 years of age. For Std. IX ‘Students must Not have completed 16 years of age. A Student can appear for Mathematics Scholarship Examination for the class only in which he is studying during the academic year, even if his age permits for lower class Medium of Examinatio1 English & Marathi Nature of Question Paper: The students appearing for the mathematics Scholarship Examination will be tested in Mathematics only. The question paper will consist of 40 questions, of 2 % marks each. The entire paper will be objective in nature, i.¢. each question will be supported by four alternative answers. The duration of the examination will be 60 minutes for the Final Examination. Students are requested to study the OMR sheet available on our website. www.ipm-mathemagic.com About the OMR (Optical Mark Reader) Technology The Institute for Promotion of Mathematics uses the computerized method of correcting the objective natured question papers, using the OMR technology. The OMR technology enables to correct the answers quickly, accurately, with analysis of any sort e.g. incorrect, missing, percentile, percentage of student answering correctly a particular question etc. How to Answer the Questions on the OMR Answer Sheet : ‘Answerto the question is provided in one of the four circles beside the question number. Only one of the four circles contain the right answer. Students are required to darken the correct circle containing the option number with a blue or black ball point pen on the OMR Answer Sheet provided separately in such a way that the number in the circle is not visible . For more details see the sample of the OMR Answer Sheet available onwww.ipm-mathemagic.com Books and Syllabus & Past Question Papers : Prescribed text books for the Mathematics Scholarship Examination, Past Question Papers & Solved Questions Papers have been published By the Institute for all classes (II & IX). The books will be made available at the respective schools (on order by school or parents) and also at the Institute's Office. The prescribed syllabus for all the classes will be covering the regular school syllabus but will be of an advanced level. EXAMINATION PATTERN AND RULES” The Institute will conduct the All India Open Mathematics Scholarship Examination in the following structure: (V) Final Examinati All candidates who have applied for the All India Open Mathematics Scholarship Examination will compulsory have to appear for the Final Examination. Based on the Performance at the Final Examination the top 400/500 students will qualify for the Mega -Final. Those remaining absent forthe Final Examination will not be allowed to appear for the Mega -Final. Note: There is No Negative Marking System for the Final Examination. Il) Mega - Final The selected 400/500 students from the Final Exam of each class will qualify and appear for the Mega - Final. The Scholarship Awards and Prizes will be based on the performance at the Mega - Final. In case of tie in the Mega -Final the marks of the Final Exam will be considered for the tie-break. In case of an unresolved tie the students will be given the same ranking and the prize money will be shared equally. Note : 1. Negative Marking System will be applied for the Mega - Final. mark will be deducted for every wrong answer. 2. The Mega -Final Examination will be conducted at Pune & Mumbaionly. 3. The selected candidates will have to bear their own expenses to appear for the Mega -Final. Passing Marks : Students scoring 30% and above at the Mathematics Scholarship Examination will be declared successful candidates. Scholarship will be awarded to students who score a minimum of 60% marks or above as per the Merit-List of he first 150/200 students as declared in the prizes. Although a student can appear for the Mathematics Scholarship Examination pertaining to higher class other than his own, he willbe eligible for a Rank only to the class to which he belongs. All scholarships and prizes in money are distributed through crossed cheques. Parents/Students are requested to deposit the cheque within three month from the given date. For change of date on the cheque or issue of new cheque postage and other charges as applicable will have to be borne by the parents. Results : The results of the Final Examination will be hosted on the internet within 45 days of the date of Examination. The mark sheets, certificates and Scholarship Cheques will be sent to the school Students are requested to visit the website, www.ipm-mathemagic.com to stay well informed about the Institute's activities. Rechecking of Marks : ‘On payment of prescribed fee of Rs.50/-, along with an application of rechecking, the scanned copy of the student's answer sheet and the correct answer sheet will be mailed to your given email id. The application for rechecking of marks should be made within 15 days after the declaration of the results. Date of Final Examination and Mega Final Examination : The Final Scholarship Exam will be held on the Third /Fourth Sunday of April. (Check website for exact date) Mega Final will be conducted in July. No request from any paren/student will be entertained for the change of date of the Examination. For exact dates check our website www.ipm-mathemagic.com The Director reserves the right to change the dates/Center of examination under unavoidable circumstances. EXAMINATION FEE The Examination fee for the Final and Mega Final of the Mathematics Scholarship Examination will be as follows COLI] Examination Fee (Final & Mega-Final) 1, IV, V,VI,VUL, VIL, & 1X Rs.300/-(Rs.Three Hundred Only) Prescribed Application Forms are to be submitted along with the necessary Fee. The application form is provided along with this prospectus. The fee should be paid by Cheque/Draft only, drawn in favour of ‘Institute for Promotion of Mathematics” In case of dishonour of cheque Rs.150/-will have to be paid by the drawer of the cheque to the Institute towards bank and administrative charges. Note : Outstation students other than Pune and Mumbai will remit fees by draft only. Last Date of Submission of Application Forms. Application Forms duly filled in must be submitted to the Institute's office by 31st December Incomplete forms will be rejected. Fees once paid will not be refunded under any circumstances. Late Fee: Application forms submitted after the last date will be accepted along with the Late Fee of Rs.100/- up to 15th January. Hall Ticket, Seat Number & Center for Examination : The Hall Ticket bearing the Seat Number, timing and the Center for the Examination will be posted on our Website www.ipm-mathemagic.com 15/30 days prior to the date of the examination, students have print the hall ticket from the website. In case the Hall Ticket is not received by the student he/she must contact the Institute's office immediately. The Director reserves the right to delete or add any centers at his discretion. In case of unavailability of center at any District, the students will have to appear for the exam at Pune/ Mumbai only.
