4th Grade Music Class

Recorders!
Dear parent(s)/guardian(s),
!
The students in 4th grade have had a great start to the school year! This
year well be learning about musical form, the treble clef, syncopated rhythms,
pentatonic xylophone set-ups, and more. It is almost time to begin the recorder!
Using the recorder will greatly benefit our students in continuing their music
education at Coonley by preparing them for the opportunity to play in band.
Students will develop an embouchure, playing and breathing techniques, and
staff reading skills.
!
Your child will be given a recorder next week during music class. (provided
by the school) She/he may take the recorder home to practice and play, however
it MUST return to Coonley on days when the students have music class. See
schedule below. Lost or damaged recorders must be replaced by the parent(s)/
guardian(s) for a fee of $3. All money will be collected by Mr. Wrzesinski. (Ask Mr.
Wrzesinski for a replacement form if needed.) Your child will not need to
purchase a lesson book. All handouts will be given to the students as needed.
!
At the end of our time using the recorders in 4th grade, students may keep
the recorder over the summer break. All students must bring their recorder back
to school for the beginning of 5th grade music class. Our comprehensive music
curriculum utilizes the recorder for building concepts in 4th and 5th grade. After
5th grade, students may keep their recorder.

Students in 301 have music on Mondays and Wednesdays

Students in 304 have music on Wednesdays and Thursdays
Recorder Care:
After playing, dry the inside of the instrument with the swab
(included in recorder bag); use lint-free gauze or cloth.
The mouthpiece should always be kept clean. Wipe the
outer surface with clear soapy water; NEVER use
benzine or methyl alcohol. When not in use, always keep
the recorder in its case. Treat it carefully and it will last
forever!
