Objectives As a result of completing this course, you should be able to achieve the following:
1. Perform and understand the basic badminton shots
2. Apply terminology, rules, and scoring procedures in game situations (singles and doubles
play)
3. Apply strategy to singles and doubles play

Required You will need to dress out (i.e., shorts, sweats, t-shirts). No jeans. Most importantly, you will need
Equipment to wear non-marking athletic shoes.

B 80-85
C+ 76-79
C 70-75
D+ 66-69
D 60-65
F 0-59

Grading & KNOWLEDGE – 50% of final grade


Evaluation An exam will be given during the course evaluating your knowledge of terminology, scoring and
game play.

SKILL – 40% of final grade


During the course you will be asked to complete a self-assessment of skill development. At the end
of the course you will be given an evaluation from the instructor rating your ability in each area
covered.

PARTICIPATION – 10% of final grade


Participation will be graded on attitude, no cell phone use, effort and treatment of others.

Attendance Policy You must attend 70% of the classes to receive a passing grade. The class meets 21 times. Each
student will get one unexcused absence. That means that you must attend 14 of the remaining 20
classes to pass. Your final grade cannot be higher than your percentage of classes attended. For
example, a student attending 82% of classes will not earn any grade above 82% for the course.
Absences for university sponsored activities and illnesses are excused but you must let me know in
advance or during the first class period following the absence(s).

Make-Up Policy If there is a problem with an exam date you must make arrangements in advance to take it at
another time. Because the exam will be offered twice during the session, no make-ups will be
allowed for students who do not speak to me in advance about missing an exam date.
