ONLINE BOOK CLUB CONVERSATION ABOUT
Brown Girl Dreaming by Jacqueline Woodson 1. Go to the Philadelphia Reading Councils Website at http://philadelphiareadingcouncil.weebly.com/ 2. Click on the Forum tab on the menu bar. 3. On right you will see link to sign in with Weebly (if you have an account) or you can easily create an account. 4. Or you may use other accounts to sign in: Google, Facebook, Twitter, Yahoo, etc. 5. Try to get signed in during December so well be ready to discuss the book in January and February. 6. At present, there are 2 forums: Book Club and Discussion Board. 7. Click on the first forum, Book Club, and 2 topics will drop down. 8. Then click on Introductions and briefly introduce yourself to our online community by typing in the reply window and then submitting your response by clicking Reply. 9. For now, the second topic is Book club Start-up Meeting. Go ahead and click around, read and post something to get familiar with the logistics. 10.We can use the other forum, Discussion, for other questions and topics related to literacy. 11.When we begin our online discussion, a new topic will be posted for each section according to our schedule. The calendar for responding to our text is: i. January 5 -15 to discuss Part I: pages 1-41 ii. January 16 -23 to discuss Part II: pages 45-138 iii. January 24-30 to discuss Part III: pages 143-203 iv. February 1 - 7 to discuss to discuss Part IV: pages 207-278 v. February 8 - 14 to discuss Part V: pages 283-325 12.Click on Book Club forum to read the topic and any introductory prompts and then scroll down to type in your response in Reply window and click Reply to submit. 13.If you want your photo to be included, you must have one associated with the account you used to sign in. Go to the profile section of that account and upload a photo or avatar if you wish. 14.For all messages or comments: a. Everyone in the Book Club will see every message and every response. b. After you comment, you can place a checkmark if you want to be notified by email when someone responds to your comment. 15.The schedule above is somewhat flexible. Fell free to comment as fits your reading. 16.Include whatever is meaningful to you to keep the conversation rich and diverse.
