PLANTING THE SEED OF OPPORTUNTY IN OUR LOCAL AREA

As the Liberal Candidate for Jagajaga, I am excited by the environmental funding

announced by Senator Scott Ryan for Green Army projects in our local area.
The Green Army project Nillumbik's Creek Connections will provide real and lasting
benefits for our unique local environment while offering young people opportunities
that will improve their future employment options and careers
This project will see the Green Army team focus on 30 of Nillumbik Shire Councils
key reserves along Diamond Creek, Plenty River, Yarra River and their tributaries
and in 10 of the 30 reserves the team will survey for the presence of threatened
species, including the Eltham copper butterfly, and threats to those species which
will give them an improved understanding of the impact of their ecological restoration
actions.
This local team will support ongoing partnerships with community groups by
supporting Friends of Nillumbik group working bees and the delivery of a National
Tree Day event.
The Green Army is first and foremost an environmental programme that aims to
support practical, environment and heritage conservation projects across Australia.
In addition to environmental outcomes, the Green Army also provides training and
skills to young locals in the region, which is something that I am passionate about.
In previous rounds of the Green Army Programme we have seen other local projects
such as the Parks Victoria Melbourne Water partnership Yarra Valley habitat
restoration receive funding. This project saw teams protect threatened species and
improve habitat from the Banyule Flats reserve to Yarra Bend Park.
If elected the Member for Jagajaga I will continue to fight for more local projects to
be funded to continue to see improvements to our local environment and providing
opportunities for local youth.
