Home – a poem to Ilan

Twenty years now it has been,

Since the soil of SA has been seen.

Luckily the folks in Oz treat you well

‘Howzit Boet’ from the butcher as you sound the bell

Upon entrance into this now well known place.

Boerewors, braaivleis and biltong,

All the things from SA brought along

A little more homeliness to foreign this used to be

Home is where the heart is – what if it was taken to thee?

Certainly no Table mountain, nor Jo’burg traffic along

But the same old weather and well known song

Of friendship and happiness in heart

Therefore, from us you will never part!

May you feel more at home, my friend.

South African regards,

Daniel
