A Tragedy for a Change
Juliet was a young girl whose heart fell in love for Romeo. Juliet's decisions lead her to a
tragic end but the opportunity for a change. Her culture shaped her fate with having her father
choose who she can and cannot marry. During the circumstances that Juliet faced, her only goal
was to be with her beloved Romeo. Romeo and Juliets vehement love became stronger but her
being a Capulet meant she couldn't be with Romeo, a Montague. People face the same situation
of having their fate be affected by their cultural identity but a persons fate will stay the same
unless a change must have occurred.
Having a culture is like having a habit, moral, or value around you. The world was a less
populated place years ago. In Romeo and Juliet there was a smaller community and this impacted
inner family relationships. In the play, the Montagues and the Capulets had a family feud. This
affected Romeo and Juliets fate of being with each other. They both thought they could never be
together because of what was going on in their families. Romeo and Juliet had strong
relationship and they wouldnt let a silly family feud come between them, so they secretly got
married behind their families back. They loved each other so much they were willing to go
through so much trouble and in the end die for one another.
In the Renaissance time period the women were seen as property. Its still the same today
I like being a woman, even in a man's world the men make all the decisions and not just their

wives but also their daughters were treated this way. You see this happen in act III scene V
Capulet tells his daughter off that if she doesn't marry Paris he would disown her Juliet would
have to move away. Capulet called her different types of names this shows that orders had to be
followed by men or else there would be consequences. There were times the father would pick a
husband for his daughter and she would have no input or knowledge of who she was marrying
she would have to marry the man because that's what the father wanted. Act I scene 2 Paris goes
to talk to Capulet about marrying Juliet, the father and groom would make all of the decisions
about the wedding the bride would know nothing of it. Men chose and made the women's or
daughter's fate everything and anything would be left up to the men to decide this would control
the women fate.
Among the people who've changed their fate are immigrants. Every year immigrants
come to the United States for life changing opportunities and freedom . Although many
immigrants come to the United States, not all come legally due to the lack of money and
frightened about getting deported. Having no choice many work in agriculture farms that pay so
little. Families with children have to take their children to work to be able to support them
economically. Children aren't able to attend school for the whole year because they must work
long hours during harvest times to earn money for their families. They struggle in school and
most don't graduate high school leaving them at the same position as their parents. It only takes
one student to graduate high school and get a better job to change the future of their future
generations. The same way it only took Juliet and Romeo to break the chain and let peace be
among both families.
In conclusion, the feud between the Montagues and the Capulets troubled Romeo and
Juliets destiney of being together. This caused the terrible end of Romeo and Juliet and they both

ended their lives. Above all Romeo and Juliet were the change that helped the Montague and
Capulet family come together in peace. Men having the control in women's lives and economic
background can be an obstacle that can determine your fate but only you determine how your
actions will respond.
