PRODUCTION PART APPROVAL PROCESS

The purpose of PPAP is to determine if all customer

engineering design record and specification requirements
are properly understood by the supplier and that the process
has the potential to produce product consistently meeting
these requirements during an actual production run at the
quoted production rate.
1. A new part or product
2. Correction of a discrepancy on a previously submitted part.
3. Product modified by an engineering change to design
records , specifications or materials .
4. Special customer notifications .
1. Significant production run .
One hour to eight hours – Min 300 consecutive parts .
Same environment .

2. Design records .
CAD/ CAM data, Part drawings,Specifications.
3. Engineering approval records.
4. DFMEA , PFMEA .
5. Process flow diagrams
6. Dimensional results.
Required for unique manufacturing process.
Supplier to keep master sample .
7. Material test results .
Chemical ,physical , metallurgical ,mechanical
requirements.
Performance test results .

Initial process studies .

MSA studies required .
Focus on variable not attribute
Short term studies - Min 25 sub groups
Min 100 readings.
Refer SPC manual
Acceptance criteria for initial study .

Index value > 1.67 - The process currently meets

customer requirements.
1.33 > index value > 1.67- Currently acceptable, but
may require some improvement

index value < 1.33 Process does not meet the

acceptance criteria .
Measurement System Analysis
MAS studies required such as gauge R& R,
Bias , linearity , stability for all gauges ,
measuring instruments and test equipment .

CONTROL PLAN .-
Define all controls used for process control.
PART SUBMISSION WARRANT
Required for each part submission .
There are five levels.
Level 1- Warrant only .
Level 2- Warrant with product samples.
Level 3- Warrant with product samples and
complete supporting data .
Level 4- Warrant and other requirements defined
by the customer.
Level 5- Warrant with complete data at supplier
end.
Record retention .
Till the part is active plus one calendar year .
