Basic Electronics Station Two:

Diode Identification and Testing

INSTRUCTIONS: Find the bad ones. Using the digital voltage meter (DVM), measure each diode in the
container and place the diodes into their corresponding, labeled tray (good/bad and ugly)
Diodes can be tested for basic functionality. They should conduct in one direction, but not in the other.. This test
tells you nothing about voltage breakdown, or anything else, only that the device is likely to be functional.
Diode Quick Check
Check in both directions with your DVM or DMM (multimeter) between the Anode and Cathode of each diode.
You should read a "resistance" of 600-700mV (sometimes shown as ohms, but is actually voltage)

Note: The main purpose of a diode in electronics is to actively rectify current flow. Similar to a one-way
street, current can only flow in one direction.
