MANILA - Days before revelries for the New Year, firecracker and gun-related incidents have risen to 44, according to
the Philippine Nation Police (PNP).
Of this figure, which was tallied from December 16 to 26, 27 were related to illegal pyrotechnic products. The seized
contraband items were worth about P600,000.
Eight individuals have been injured due to firecrackers, the PNP added.
Police also arrested two individuals, one from Leyte and the other from Dapitan City, due to illegal possession of
firearms. They are still investigating the latest case from Quezon.
Stray bullets also injured a girl and a 50-year-old man in Zamboanga city, and a resident each in Pangasinan, Manila
and Cavite.
A stray bullet was also found inside a house in Quezon City. No one was hurt in the incident.
The PNP said that aside from illegal fireworks, they have also banned drinking sprees along streets, which have often
caused accidents during New Year festivities.
The national police also discouraged the public from using firecrackers and pyrotechnics to welcome 2016. -- Report
