Objectives:

1. Explain, with selected examples, how multiple different etiologies lead to the presence of
leucocytes within muscle tissues.
2. Be aware that Coxsackieviruses have historically been the most common causes of infectious
myocarditis in the USA and that worldwide there are a variety of viruses, bacteria and
parasites (and non-infectious etiologies) underlying myocarditis.
