CE Dimensioning for TEF

01 Apr, 2011

CE Definition

One Channel Element is the base band resources

required in the Node-B to provide capacity for one
voice channel including control plane signaling,
compressed mode, transmit diversity.

ZTE Channel Elements Features

Channel elements are pooled in one NodeB.

CE for CCH are reserved.

ZTEs BPC board can support 192CE for uplink and downlink respectively.

This year BPK may be used instead of BPC. BPK has 384 instead of 192 by
BPC. This is only for R99. For HSDPA special equipment is reserved.

ZTEs baseband processing board has special chip to handle the traffic of HSPDSCH and HS-SCCH. So HSDPA downlink traffic will not consume CE.

HSUPA shares CE resource with R99 services

CE Dimensioning Procedure

Subscribers per NodeB and traffic model will be the input of CE dimensioning.
For CS service, CE number is calculated by using ErlangB model.
Soft handover are considered.

Calculation Process-1

Total traffic of AMR 12.2K per site = 870 * 0.03*50% = 13Erl

According to Erlang-B model, simultaneous link number is 20.

CEUL _ AMR12.2 LinkNumber CEfactorAMR12.2 20 1 20CE

CE DL _ AMR12.2 LinkNumber CEfactorAMR12.2 20 1 20CE

Total traffic of CS64Kusers per site = 870 * 0.03*50% = 1.3Erl

According to Erlang-B model, simultaneous link number is 5.

CEUL _ CS 64 K LinkNumber CEfactorUL _ CS 64 K 5 2.5 12.5CE

CE DL _ CS 64 K LinkNumber CEfactorDL _ CS 64 K 2.5 1.8 4.5CE

Total uplink throughput of PS64K users per site = 870 * 32 *2% = 557kbps

Downlink throughput of PS64K users per site = 870*32*2% = 557kbps

CEUL _ PS 64 K LinkNumber CEfactorUL _ PS 64 K [557 / 64] 2.5 21CE

CE DL _ PS 64 K LinkNumber CEfactorDL _ PS 64 K [557 / 64] 1.8 16CE

Calculation Process-2
CE Consumed by HSUPA
If we assume that HSUPA throughput is 400kbps per user online. Then ZTEs base
processing unit will consume 5.7*870*1% = 50CE.
If it is 3.4K signalling for HSUPA downlink and uplink associated signalling channel.
CE_DL signalling = 870*1%*0.3 = 3CE
CE_UL signalling = 870*1%*0.3 = 3CE
So total CE consumed by HSUPA will be 53CE@UL and 3CE@DL.
CE Consumed by HSDPA
For HSDPA service, ZTE base band processing board has special chip to handle the traffic
of HS-PDSCH and HS-SCCH. So traffic consumes no CE in downlink.
If it is 3.4K signalling for HSDPA downlink associated signalling channel.
CE_DL signalling = 870*2%*0.3 = 6CE
CE_DL signalling = 870*2%*0.3 = 6CE
So total CE consumed by HSDPA will be 6CE@DL and 6CE@UL
Total Required CE
If consider 30% SHO Ratio
Total Uplink CE = (20+12.5+21+53+6)*1.3=150 CE
Total Uplink CE = (20+4.5+16+3+6)*1.3=52 CE
Limited by uplink, Total CE required is 150 CE.
ZTEs BPC board can hardware support 192CE. So the base band processing resource
can meet the requirement.
