My Parents Love Story
Wouldnt it be funny if you found out that amidst the smell of pig manure, two of the
most important people in your life met for the first time? Well, this exactly is the story of my
mother and my father.
Some 20 years ago, my mom, a fresh graduate of the University, UP, began doing
business for a Batangas based piggery under the name, Kalaw Farms. After a few trips to the said
place, my mother, became known by the Farm Veterinarians. November 24, the vets told my
mom that the farm would not have its call day because it was the birthday of the the farm vets
and the nephew of the farm owner. Coincidentally, my mothers birthday fell a day afterward.
There, she met the birthday celebrants, the nephew being drunk.
Come January 19, the office required my mother to be based in Lipa so she began
searching for a dormitory. She knew nobody in that area except for the said nephew. The date
was the fiesta of Lipa City so they decided to take a stroll at Tagaytay city. Little did she know,
this man was the one she would marry someday.
During the time they began being acquainted with each other, both had feelings for each
other but they could not say it. Being friends, they decided to meet once a month. Before they
knew it, they decided to put up a business together. The following January, they decided to get
married.
They decided to get married in 1996 and my mom later gave birth to her first son, Justine.
Three years later, she gave birth to me and after two more, we became three. This love story is
still being written up to today even after almost 19 years and I dont believe it will stop from
there.
The love letter of my dad to my mom is one of the most prized possessions owned by her.
She did not allow me to scan it due to the thinness of the said paper. I could also not take a
picture because it was already faded and a picture would be futile. The message of the letter,
however is still readable and I typed it below. This letter was given on my mothers birthday. My
mother was touched by this because my dad was not a fan of writing letters.
Happy birthday to a very wonderful person, who is such an inspiration and the reason
for my first smile when I wake up in the morning. I am just so lucky to have you and I
pray to the Lord that you be blessed with more birthday.
My grandmother was brought to tears when she saw this because she thought my father
was not capable of writing like this. Later on, my grandmother found a card in my fathers bag
from his ex-girlfriend containing the exact same message.
