ACMS PTO MINUTES

September 10, 2015


Meeting called to order at 7:30am
Present: Cheryl Luther, Summer Wood, Tricia Cook, Sonja Koster, Rose Weskamp, Amy
Easterbrook, Haakon Lang-Ree, Julie Achiro, Courtney Murrell, Rich Howard, Dawn

ASB Report
Kelly Critz reported on the upcoming dance scheduled for 9/25/15. Student Body needs
to raise 10K. This particular dance is open to any middle school student in the Truckee
area and will be $20. Food and drinks will be provided. The dance is in lieu of a
Sports-a-Thon. All other dances for the year will be at the regular rate of $7/$9.
Honor Roll
Amy Easterbrook reported on Honor Roll Breakfast upcoming events.
9/24 for last year 6th grade trimester, 9/25 for last year 7th grade trimester
A new coordinator is needed to take over this job.
Minutes read by Summer. Cheryl made a motion to approve as read. 2 nd by Hien. All in
favor.
Treasurers Report
Cheryl would like to use Wave a free program to simplify the accounting.
Julie made a motion to approve. 2nd by Amy. All in favor.
Current balance of $10,464
Principals Report
Back to School Night is scheduled for 9/17 at 5:30. The school band will start
performing at 5:15.
Mondays- Student Advisory beginsfocusing on social skills.
Site Councillots of parents wanting to participate.
Excellence in Education + Donations - Shady Creek cost went down from $240 to
$200 per student.
FacebookHien posts every other day. See whats going on at ACMS
Homework Club starts after Back to School night.
ACMS enrollment is up - 505 students.
Our PTO could be eligible for a grant from Ironman (need to apply & have
volunteer staff coordinated/ ask Cheryl)
Eco-Actionwanting a 3 year commitment for $1,500/year from PTO
Enrichment Programs offered need to be sponsored by PTO
Co_Presidents Report
After School Enrichment Progams sponsored by PTO -Spanish Conversational Class,
Theater and Chorus.

Conversational Spanish - by Brienne Lopez. Geared towards Spanish speaking


students or students who attended a Spanish immersion program at the elementary
level so that they can maintain their Spanish skills through speaking, reading and
writing. Tuesdays, October 7th December 8th.
Theater - by Michelle Jones and Madeline Roy. Students will broaden their
horizons culturally and personally through theater. Wednesdays, October 7 th
December 8th.
Chorus TBD
$80 per trimester (with a spring performance and possible performance during Open
House). Of the $75, $5 will go towards scholarship money.
PTO needs to renew the insurance policy. Motion by Summer. 2nd by Julie. All in favor.
Measure A is coming up for renewal. This bond supports many programsfor middle
schools particularly PE, Spanish, library costs, supplies, chrome books, band & much
more! We need to get the word out to vote YES on Measure A.
Rose will be organizing the next BOX TOP contest Oct 27
Snack Shack = Sonya recommended that PTO pass on the Snack Shack fundraiser to
ASB. Not enough parent volunteers.
Alternative Fundraiser- Rose presented a flyer seeking PTO donations from parents who
are too busy to donate their time towards PTO events. The flyer listed several levels of
options in ways they can donate money. It was recommended for distribution during
conference week of November 2nd.
Meeting days for PTO will be 1st Tuesday of each month at 7:30 am.
Shady Creek October 20th 23rd, PTO approved $3,000. If additional funds available,
PTO will consider approving allocating more funds.
Excellence in Education Haakon Lang-Ree
Mr. Lang Ree reported that $250,000 is granted annually by Excellence in Ed. Those
seeking grants must be curriculum based. Consumables and field trips do not meet grant
requirements. Deadline to submit grant is October 27 th. Distribution of funds will be
allocated in December 2015. Teachers need to be notified to submit grant to Site Council
for approval which should then be submitted to Excellence in Ed.
