Merino, ~250 yards per 4oz skein shown in
Beach Fog

to fit an average sized adult womens head

US size 5 (3.75mm) needles

ABBREVIATIONS

US size 4 (3.5mm) DPNs

make one right

6 sts per inch in stockinette with larger needles

INSTRUCTIONS
Cast 4 sts onto smaller DPNs and work i-cord for
7 inches.
Change to larger needles.
Purl 4, this will be the wrong side of the headband.
Next Row: k1, M1L, k2, M1R, k1
Next Row (WS): purl
Next Row (RS): k1, M1L, k to 1 st before end,
M1R, k1
Repeat these last two rows until you have 18 sts.
End with a WS row.
Continue in stockinette for 16 more rows.
Begin seed stitch pattern:
Row 1 (RS): (k1, p1) repeat to end
Row 2 (WS): (p1, k1) repeat to end
Knit seed stitch pattern for 9.5 inches.
End after a WS row.
Work 16 rows in stockinette.
Begin decreasing:
Next Row (RS): k1, ssk, k to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1
Next Row (WS): purl
Repeat these last two rows until you have 4 sts
remaining.
Change to smaller DPNs and knit i-cord again for
7 inches.
Bind off. Weave in ends and block.
