As a student that is very interest in ancient times, I wanted my project

to relate to that. When I found out that the theme was Exploration,
Encounter, and Exchange, I decided to find an ancient explorer. I found an
explorer that had many important and impressive discoveries for his time. He
found many new places and encountered many people. He also exchanged
ideas that were not widely accepted in his time, but are very important
today. These findings led me to choose the topic of explorer Pytheas the
Greek.
I began my research by using the Internet to search for sources for my
project. I used many websites like Gale Research and World Book Online to
find articles relating to Pytheas and his discoveries. I was also able to find
books online containing useful information. I relied on the primary source
Strabos Geography, which is a series of books written by Greek geographer
and philosopher, Strabo. It showed how other geographers of his time viewed
Pytheas's findings.
I chose a website because it was the ideal way to present information
about my topic. I could organize key information throughout the website. A
combination of bold visuals and text along with a few short videos would

convey my topic in an easy to understand way. The different pages would

show different events in Pytheas's life and his many accomplishments. It is
also an easy to share way of making my project.
Pytheas was an explorer and geographer, and he easily fits the theme
of Exploration, Exchange, and Encounter. He explored the ancient world and
found many new places. He exchanged different ideas that seemed strange
at the time, but are found to be true today. He also encountered new land
and new people.
