Has chaos or fear ever controlled your actions? The 9/11
attacks in America left many Americans in devastation. In Leonard
Pitts article, Well go forward from this moment, Leonard uses
rhetoric devices such as repetition and alliteration to refocus and
restore his people in times of disorder.
First, Leonard uses repetition to address two different audiences,
mentioning the unknown author of suffering and the people of
America. You monster. You beast. You unspeakable bastard. By doing
this, is he able to redirect the mental focus of the people from fear to
anger, and he is able to refocus his people. Next, Leonard regroups and
empowers the people of America through repetition. Did you want us
to respect your cause? You just damned your cause. Did you want to
make us fear? You just steeled our resolve. Did you want to tear us
apart? You just brought us together. By using repetition, Leonard was
able to strengthen the people of America in times of distress, and
reunify the people of America once again.
