Welcome to Yearbook! This is a class that will sharpen your technical, journalism and
photography skills. As a member of this class, you are officially part of the yearbook team and
are expected to be an active participant. My job as your teacher is to act as a coach, a facilitator,
someone who is here to teach you and then assist you when you need me. Please note: even
though this is a hands-on, student-led class, I reserve the right to make final decisions on behalf
of the class.

Grading
Your grade in this class will be determined by your performance on homework, quizzes,
yearbook spreads, participation in ad sales, event photography, and other assignments to be
determined.

Assignments:
1. All homework assignments are due at the beginning of the period.
2. Hand in polished work. (Limit misspellings and grammatical mistakes on homework
assignments.) Write legibly (or type). I reserve the right to reject work.
3. Page deadlines and large projects will be due on time whether you are present or not. You
must make arrangements to get the work to me when it is due, unless you have discussed
the issue with me ahead of time.

In case of emergency due to illness or computer problems:


Email the assignment to me, submit it online, or bring/ send in a flash drive with your
saved information on it.

Make-Up Work Due to Absence

For smaller homework assignments, you have as many days to make up the work as you
were absent. Check the assignment notebook or your portfolio for missed work.
2. It is your responsibility to turn in any make-up work. Failure to do so in a timely manner
will result in a zero on the assignment.

While in the lab, no unauthorized use of the internet/computer. While you are in
yearbook, you are expected to work only on our class work.

7. Give your best effort on every assignment.

Out of Class Participation


In order to produce a complete yearbook, yearbook staff members are expected to participate in
outside of class time activities. Attending sporting events and other school functions in order to
take pictures and gather information to be used in the book is a requirement for this class. You
may also be expected to put in extra time after school in order to meet deadlines.

Yearbook Commitment Contract*


By signing the commitment contract Parent/Guardians, students and the advisor agree to the
following:
Parent/Guardian
I grant permission for my child to work on yearbook-related errands in the community
outside of school hours.
I grant permission for my child to travel to Bettsville during school hours to complete
assignments for the elementary section of the yearbook.
I understand that my child will need to devote time outside of class for the completion of
assigned tasks outlined in their job description.
I understand that my child will be working with specialized equipment and supplies and
will be held responsible for any damage, loss and/or waste due to negligence.
I understand that if my child is going to be absent, then he/she needs to make
arrangements for his/her out of class duties to be covered.
I understand that my child will be responsible for assisting with financial aspects of the
publication, including book and advertising sales. This may be used as part of the class
evaluation criteria.
Staff Member

I pledge to behave responsibly, reflecting the best of myself, the staff, and the school
while on staff-related assignments in the community.
I have been made fully aware that I may need to devote time outside of school hours in
order to complete assigned tasks outlined in job descriptions for deadlines. I commit
myself to making myself available.
I understand the importance of the schools equipment and promise to treat it with
respect and care. Should I neglect, lose, or abuse the equipment, I will repair or replace
it.
I understand that I will be asked to help with the financial aspects of publication,
including advertising, yearbook sales, and fundraising.

Adviser
As adviser, I understand that a staff member has other obligations and responsibilities outside of
school. Therefore, I will work individually with each staff member to make sure that he/she
fully understands the commitment that is being made prior to assuming a task. Staff members
and parents are encouraged to communicate with me about any questions or concerns that arise.
I appreciate your cooperation and am very excited about making this a great year!

Replacing Lost or Damaged Equipment:

I acknowledge responsibility for the school equipments physical condition.


I acknowledge responsibility for physical security of the equipment.
I acknowledge financial responsibility for school equipment when in the possession of
my child. If equipment is damaged, lost, or stolen, I agree to pay for the
replacement/repair of that equipment.
All students who signed the check-out form are held fully and totally responsible for all
of the costs associated with lost/damaged equipment.
