Brynna Nelson, a grade 9 student at St. Mary's Catholic School, wrote a letter to the principal about increasing healthy snack options in the school canteen. She notes that the canteen currently lacks nutritious snacks and that more athletes are in school, so healthier options like yogurt, nutrigrain bars should be offered. Brynna believes this will help students have more energy, focus better in class, and improve general health since many lunches now contain artificial sugars. She asks the principal to consider her request to increase healthy snacks available to students.

Dear Madam Linda;
My name is Brynna Nelson and I am a grade 9 student attending St. Marys and it has come to my attention that our canteen is a bit lacking when it come to healthy, nutritious snacks. And I believe since our sports programs have become so much more popular and we have more and more athletes in our school we should also increase the amount of healthy snacks in our school. Yes we have recently got the fruit table outside the office but I am not talking about just fruit into the canteen, other snacks like nutrigrain bars; yogurts; etc. I believe that even just having these snacks available to students and teachers will increase the amount of kids having healthy things for lunch and help just generally increase the amount of healthy eating in the school. The reason this has become important to me, (and hopefully you), is if you take a closer look into the lunches/snacks the students are having throughout the day are full of artificial sugars and energy. And because of that many students get tired and cant focus all day long. But if we have healthier snacks available to those students who may not access to them at home it will improve their general productivity and keep them focused and at their full potential. Thank you for your consideration. Sincerely;
