1. Andrew Jackson:

a. What number (President) is he? When was he elected?


i. 7th US President, elected in 1828
b. Why was he known as a representative of the common man?
i. He was know as a representative of the common man because
he was born to poor Irish immigrants and had little early
education
c. Why was he famous before he was the President?
i. Jackson was a military hero in the War of 1812

2. Trail of Tears

Who was involved? Cherokee people


What is it? Jackson ordered the relocation of Native Americans across the
Mississippi
When did it happen? It happened in 1838 to the Cherokees

How many Native Americans were moved? Over 16,000


How many died along the way? Between 2,000 and 6,000
Why did this happen? The land the Cherokee were on was forcible signed
over to the US
3. How did the 2nd Great Awakening encourage reform? How does civil
disobedience relate?
a. The 2nd Great Awakening was marked by outdoor camp meetings that
could have lasted as long as a week. This movement encouraged the
belief that people could and should work to achieve a state of moral
perfection. Like civil disobedience, there were larger gatherings of
people in a possible state of turmoil.
4. What is a transcendentalist? What famous person from today might be
considered a transcendentalist? why do you think so? Go find a

symbol/picture that you think would be a good representation of


transcendentalism and paste it here.
a. A transcendentalist is someone who thinks that it is important to follow
ones conscience and that people should refuse to obey laws they
consider to be immoral. Batman is a transcendentalist. He breaks the
law and fights cops and criminals alike for what he believes to be the
greater good.

5. INFOGRAPHIC: Read it How did Harriet Tubmans method of opposing


slavery differ from those of Garrison and Douglas?
a. Both Garrison and Douglas talked about how slavery was bad where
Tubman actively helped people escape slavery.
6. List the two main (Most Important) conditions of the Missouri
Compromise.
a. Missouri could enter the Union as a slave state so long as a free state
(Maine) was admitted at the same time
7. 3630N altitude was set as the dividing line between slave territory and free
territory (until the 1840s when abolitionists began to increase the outcry
against slavery)
