SAIPAN INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL

ART:

Everyone at SIS loves #Art. All art
classes from kindergarten through 12th grade
started out the year reviewing the basics of
line, shape and color with some drawing and
painting techniques. With each project,
students are always encouraged to celebrate
their own personal stories by expressing them
visually. As a new teacher here at SIS, I have
been very impressed with the creativity and
enthusiasm of our unique students!

Elementary students are currently
learning all about texture by creating torn
paper animal collages, painted paper weavings,
and next up will be weaving with yarn to
create even more textures! Middle school and
high school students are venturing into the
world of sculpture by using paper mach and
cardboard to build letters, animal trophies and
large scale inanimate objects. In addition to
these projects, students are participating in
various holiday competitions
around Saipan and off the
island. Most recently, SIS
was selected to represent the
Northern Mariana Islands
for the National Park
Service's National Tree
project in Washington,
D.C. The creation of our
ornaments was all
thanks to the hard work
and collaboration from
a few of our very own
Emily Morrell
high school students
ART
and will represent the
CNMI beautifully in
D.C.
