Comments: Students used close reading strategies to read an


article analyzing Carly Rae Jepsens song Call Me Maybe. The
article was a grade appropriate article. There was a bit of a struggle
with the article which the close reading helped with
comprehension. Students were able to make appropriate
connections with the material and identify words that they did not
know. In small groups the students finished reading the article and
answering comprehension questions.

Comments: Both teacher and students show respect for one another
in the classroom. The lesson is organized. Students come in and
have the learning activities on the smart board. The essential
question, learning goal, target goal, and standards are visible on the
board.
When students provide answers the teacher follows through with
discussions and help to make the students feel comfortable in
sharing their ideas.

Comments: Students were encouraged to participate in discussion.


Students volunteered to add to the discussion, some students were
called on to add to participate (Cold call), and students were also
given the opportunity to turn and talk with their table partners.
For example, the teacher would ask students to independently read
the article, annotate, and then go back through with the teacher to
check what was annotated and why.

Collaboration has been made with the principal in develop of the class and
the implementation. This is the first year that Lyrics and Literacy was
offered for summer school.
