QoS introduction

QoS : Quality of Service

QoS is the ability to provide different priority to
different applications, users, or data flows, or to
guarantee a certain level of performance to a data
flow.

QoS introduction

Scheduling This capability employs an algorithm to retrieve

packets from multiple priority queues for egress.
Priority marking This capability enables the marking of
outgoing packets based on packet priority received from
external interface or rendered internally.
Rate limiting This capability applies rate thresholds to limit
the traffic throughput on a per traffic flow or per port basis.
Traffic shaping This capability controls the volume of traffic
being sent into a network in a specified period, or the
maximum rate at which the traffic is sent.

QoS introduction

For downstream QoS

support four downstream queues
support PVCs downstream priority class
support PVC rate limit
support traffic shaping
For upstream QoS two types of priority
Port-based
User specified rule based

QoS introduction

Upstream QoS process

When multiple methods are enabled,
a packet priority is determined by the
priority derived from the first matched
criteria in the following precedence:
Priority derived from user specified
rule
Priority derived from Port based
priority
Priority specified in 802.1p tag
