Greenland,Canada,andAlaska.InuitcamefromtheThuleculture,whichemergedfrom
westernAlaskainabout1000CEthatspreadedtotheeasternpartsoftheArctic.By1300,the
InuithavemovedtowestGreenlandandsettleddown.TheythenwenttoeastGreenlandover
thefollowingcentury.

ThecultureandtechnologyofInuitsocietythatservedsowellintheA
rctic
werenotsuitedtosubarcticregions,sotheydidnotmovetotheirsouthernneighbors.The
changingclimateforcedInuittoworktheirwaysouth,forcingthemtogototheareaswhich
NativeAmericanshadnotoccupiedorwheretheywereweakenoughforcoexistencewithInuit.

Amerindian
AmerindianisatermusedinQuebecbutnotusedcommonlyinothercountries.The
migrationsofhumansfromAsiawenttotheAmericascametherebyalandbridgecalled
Beringia.
ThemajorityofexpertsagreethattheearliestmigrationviaBeringiatookplaceat
least13,500yearsago.However,thereisevidencethatpeoplehadmigratedintotheAmericas
muchearlier,upto40,000yearsago.AmerindianareknownasAmericanIndianandIndian.
IndianwasatermthatoriginatedfromChristopherColumbuswho,wassearchingforAsia,
thoughthelandedontheEastIndieswhenarrivingattheAmericas.

Algonquian
TheAlgonquianareoneofthemostpopulatedandwidespreadNorthAmericannativelanguage
groups.
Today,thousandsofindividualsidentifywithvariousAlgonquianpeoples.Historically,
thepeopleswereoutstandingalongtheAtlanticCoastandintotheinterioralongtheSt.
LawrenceRiverandaroundtheGreatLakes.TheAlgonquianpeoplespeakAlgonquian
languages.TheselanguagesthattheAlgonquianpeoplespeakarefromtheAlgiclanguage
family.TheAlgonquianpeoplethatareinCanadaliveprimarilybyfishing.
