The Other Wes Moore

and The Road Not
Taken
Compare and Contrast
Poetry and books can share many similarities and differences. The Other Wes Moore
and The Road Not Taken both have themes about making decisions. While they have many
similarities, they also have many differences. In this passage, the two stories will be compared and
contrasted.
The Other Wes Moore is about two young boys who try and take on the world in their
urban neighborhoods. They both share the same name, Wes Moore. They both lived in the same
neighborhood. They are occasionally found in trouble with the police. They were born within
about four years of each other. Neither of them had a paternal influence in their lives growing up.
However, one ends up going down the right path, and the other one ends up going down the
wrong path.
In The Road Not Taken, a man tries to make a decision of which path to take. One of
the paths is often taken by people. The other path is not often taken by people. He struggles to
choose a path that he thinks will be best for him. We as readers dont exactly know what the
rewards are for each path. Eventually, we come to realize that he took the more difficult and less
traveled path. He ended up being satisfied with his choice.
These two stories have many similarities and differences. In The Other Wes Moore, the
Wess have to make a decision on how they will live their lives and the decisions that they will
make in life. The man in the poem also has to also make a decision, except his decision is which
path he should take in the woods. Both end up being satisfied with their decisions, except for the
other Wes Moore, who probably regrets the decisions he made in his lifetime. On the other
hand, Wes Moores story is about going through life, whereas Robert Frosts story is about him
going through the woods. In Wes Moores story, he writes about himself and the other Wes
Moore, whereas Robert Frosts story is about only one man. Lastly, The Road Not Taken seems
to be written a while ago due to the style of writing, whereas The Other Wes Moore was written
recently due to its modern style of writing.
Poetry and books often have many differences and similarities. The Other Wes Moore
and The Road Not Taken have similarities on their themes, which is decision making. Their
differences on the other hand are about where they are based off, which is in the woods and in life.

In my opinion, I thought The Other Wes Moore was a great novel. The author, Wes
Moore, did a great job explaining his life and the other Wes Moores life. The theme of the
book is taking advantage of any opportunity that comes your way, because it can help to
set you up for life. I really liked how in the book, Moore describes what it was like to be in
the inner city, and how he got by day-to-day. When talking about the other Wes Moores
life, it sounded so real and down to earth that you would have thought that the other Wes
would have wrote it himself.
Another thing that I took notice of in the book is how well he was able to describe the
setting. He was very clear and easy to understand. I thought also that it was easy to
distinguish his age in the chapters because of the ways he had changed, and the fact that
they wrote the year in front of each chapter. Overall I thought that this was a successful
book, and I would recommend this to readers of all ages.
