About Portugal
An independent kingdom since 1143, Portugal is one of the oldest
nations in Europe. The region was first inhabited by Neanderthals
and later by Homo sapiens.
Portugal has a population of 10,427,301 (last estimated in 2014)
There are 25 airports in Portugal and the neighboring country is
Spain.
Their currency is Euros
The capital and largest city is Lisbon

Portugal is located in Europe.

How Portuguese got to Bermuda?


Portuguese immigrants to Bermuda began arriving in the 1840's and 50's.
Between 1815 and 1850, economic change swept over the Islands as the era
of shipbuilding and seafaring came to a close. In 1847 the legislature voted
400 pounds in bounties for those shipping companies that could recruit
Portuguese immigrants. Residents of the Portuguese islands of the Azores
and Madeira were recruited as cheap labor for farming.

Why did Portuguese come to Bermuda?


Portuguese immigrants came to Bermuda to work in
the agricultural trades.

Farming
In the 1830s, a 30-yeqr-old farmer named Frank Mederios
Simon traded life on one remote Atlantic island for another.
Frank was the man who harvested Bermuda onions,
potatoes and arrowroot.

Bermuda from the Canary
Islands before 1888, and
within a few years
Bermuda got into the onion
growing business. Zaria
likes to go to the farmers
market and buy onions.

Sagres
A beer thats 100% natural, with proper brightness,
medium body, dry character and a pleasant bitter
taste. Its light and golden color. A distinct taste,
recognized and appreciated since 1940 Jah-Bre goes
to Social Club to drink these beers.

Portuguese Sweet Bread


Portuguese sweet bread is a bread made with milk,
sugar and/or honey, eggs, yeast, flour and sometimes
lemon peel to produce a subtly sweet lightly textured
loaf or rolls.

Chourico
Chorizo (Spanish)
or chourio (Portuguese) is a term
originating in the Iberian Peninsula
encompassing several types
of pork sausages. Asiahn loves to eat
sedish for breakfast.

Papo Seco
The Papo Seco which literally means dry throat is the most popular
bread eaten all over the Portugal. The roll is crusty on the outside and
light and airy in the center which make it perfect for sandwiches and
for absorbing sauces. Often people say Papo Seco to signify they
need something to drink.
