gastritis

About Gastritis

Gastritis is a painful condition that occurs when the stomach lining becomes inflamed.

 Gastritis also is an inflammation, irritation, or erosion of the lining of the stomach. It can occur
suddenly (acute) or gradually (chronic) . Acute gastritis happens quickly, sometimes suddenly,
and usually is signified by pain or a burning sensation in the upper abdomen.

If left untreated, gastritis can intensify and lead to serious digestive disorders.

Thus, it's important to identify the symptoms of stomach inflammation, and take steps to stop
gastritis.

Cause

What Is the Treatment for Gastritis?

 Treatment for gastritis usually involves:

 Taking antacids and other drugs to reduce stomach acid, which causes further irritation to
inflamed areas.

 Avoiding hot and spicy foods.

 For gastritis caused by H. pylori infection, your doctor will prescribe a regimen of several
antibiotics plus an acid blocking drug (used for heartburn).

 If the gastritis is caused by pernicious anemia, B12 vitamin shots will be given.

 Once the underlying problem disappears, the gastritis usually does, too. You should talk to your
doctor before stopping any medicine or starting any gastritis treatment on your own.

 Treatment for gastritis usually means treating the stomach acid to neutralize it.

 This can be done with antacids, acid blockers or by lifestyle and diet changes, including limiting
alcohol intake or eliminating or reducing the causes of stress in your life.
