Stella McCartney

By
Florel Washington
Stella McCartney store is located in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood also
better known as the ultra trendy Meat packing district, entering the store isn’t like
entering most high end designer boutiques, its much more relaxed and at ease, the
environment is pleasantly calm with ambient music that fills the store . The space itself
is a moderate size, with columns and over sized mirrors that make the space seem
larger. The low ceilings and replica marble(esk) floors surrounded by beige walls and
pinks blinds sets a very controlled yet cool vibe, the lights seem low but the space is
well lit. The clothing in the store is definitely spring, the color palette consist of pinks,
blush, greens, blues, oranges, whites, floral and blacks and browns that I’m assuming
are left from the fall/winter line.
The line itself is made up everything you would expect to see for spring, dresses,
trousers, blouses, jumpers, skirts, jackets, shorts, denim and suits. The price range is
high end, tank tops starting at $329, dress at $3,845, pants at $1,055, shorts at $585
and blouse at $925. All items are made in Italy, and are a mix of cottons and silks
which would definitely attribute to some of the coast of the garments, though not all. The
store also houses a nice line of hand bags, shoes and jewelry, with sticker prices just as
high as their counter parts.
At the time of my arrival and for the duration of my visit there wasn’t a whole lot
of foot traffic as I’m assuming most shoppers were at work, but the two women that did
enter browsed freely, one of whom women took up a denim skirt to try on. The staff was
also very relaxed yet professional and made me feel rather comfortable.
The silhouette and styles for the spring line are very soft with an easy tailored,
and uncomplicated feel. Dresses and skirts are flowing, tops and bottoms are ruffled,
pants are cropped and lose fitting, waist lines for skirts and dresses are at waist point
the whole line has a very flowy and simple feel to it, even suits that generally tend to
be more straight lined and structured are silky and airy definitely perfect for spring. The
line isn’t what I’d normally expect to see from this designer but it was still very well done
and executed. Over all it was a very enjoyable mock shopping experience.
