InSonnet80,Shakespearesuggeststhatloveisagamethatisruledunfairthepoetis
jealousoftheotherpoetforclaimingthewomansloveashisown.Thepoetnarrateshis
perceptionofhisloveforthewomanandjealousyoftherivalpoet.Thetonguetiedpoetnarrates
hisaffectionforthewoman,thoughhisaffectionisnotclearlyreciprocated.Thepoetslovefor
hismuseisstronglyexplainedthroughtheuseofseafaringimageryanddramaticcomparisons.
Theuseofthenauticalimageryhelpsthepoetenlargehisemotionstoclearlyillustratewhathe
istrulyfeeling.Thepoetsjealousyhasoverbearedhimashemustwriteabouthisemotions.As
hecomparesthewomansworthtoawideoceanandhimselftoasmallboat,thespeakergives
