Introduction

Gi-Fi or Gigabit Wireless -first transceiver

Operates at 60GHz on the CMOS process.
Gi-Fi allows wireless transfer of audio and
video data up to 5 gigabits per second.
Gi-Fi is ten times the current maximum
wireless transfer rate usually within a range
of 10 meters.

Existing technologies
Bluetooth:

Creates PAN.
Overcomes problems of synchronization.
Operating frequency 2.4GHz.

Wi-Fi:
Used in LANs without wires.
Operating frequency 2.4GHz.
Specification authority is given by IEEE.

Wi-Max:

Wi-Max specification IEEE 802.16e.

Operates in radio frequency spectrum(1066GHz).
Coverage area 4 to 6 mile radius.

Why Gi-Fi?
Data transfer rate of Gi-Fi 5Gbps
while Bluetooth 800Kbps
Wi-Fi 11Mbps
Range of Gi-Fi 10m
while Bluetooth 9m
Wi-Fi 100m
Power consumption of Gi-fi <2W
while Bluetooth 5W
Wi-Fi 10W

Gi-Fi costs one tenth of the other technologies

Gi-Fi Structure

Consists of a CHIP developed by NICTA.

Measures 5mm
With antenna 1mm
Manufacturing cost Rs.380
Consumes 2W of power
Operates in millimeter wave
spectrum (30-300GHz)
Made of silicon
Uses CMOS technology

Principle

Use time division duplex for both

transmission and receiving.
Data files are converted from IF range to
RF 60GHz range.
Done by 2 mixers
power amplifier
mm wave antenna

Principle

While receiving,
RF signal converted to IF
signal at 5GHz and then to normal data
ranges.
Uses heterodyne construction.
Time division duplex
has asymmetry between uplink
and downlink data speed.

FREQUENCY OF
OPERATION

Operates at 60GHz.
high oxygen absorption
Ultra Wide Band frequency usage
bandwidth range >500MHz

FEATURES

High speed data transfer

Low power consumption
High security
Cost-effective
Compactable size of chip
Flexibility
Removing cables

APPLICATIONS

In sports stadium
Office appliances
Video information transfer

Conclusion

It removes cables that for many years ruled

the world.
provides high speed data transfer rate.
Gi-Fi technology has much number of
applications and can be used in many
places and devices such as smart phones,
wireless pan networks.
It will be provides low-cost, high broadband
access, with very high speed large files
swapped within seconds.
