Fatal Collision W 75th Street and Metcalf Ave
The Overland Park Police Department is continuing to investigate a fatal collision that occurred
on Sunday, January 10th, 2016 at approximately 7:00 PM.
On Sunday, January 10th, 2016 at approximately 7:00 PM an officer from the Prairie Village
Police Department attempted to stop a vehicle on W 75th Street near Lamar Ave. The vehicle
initially indicated that it was going to pull over, but continued westbound on W 75th Street.
Seconds before the accident, the fleeing vehicle accelerated away from the officer and was
involved in a collision at W 75th Street and Metcalf Ave.
Upon arrival, officers located three vehicles involved in the crash. As a result of the collision, six
subjects were transported from the scene to area hospitals. One subject was transported with lifethreatening injuries. This subject later succumbed to her injuries at the hospital. Five other
subjects were transported to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.
As a result of the vehicle collision one subject was arrested and transported to the Olathe Adult
Detention Center to await formal charging.
The victim from the vehicle collision has been identified as Denise Lopez (25 years old) of
Kansas City, Kansas.
The Overland Park Traffic Safety Unit continues to investigate this collision.
