1. TITLE
Time Test: Gum Flavor Lab
2. ABSTRACT
Before the lab began we knew that gum is a common chewing candy. We inquired what brand of gum
would have flavor for the longest time and we hypothesized that Juicy Fruit would have the longest lasting
flavor.Our procedure involved acquiring different brands of gum and record how much time each gums
flavor lasted.We found that Juicy Fruit held the most flavor for the most time.
3. INTRODUCTION
Before the lab began we knew that gum can be used to produce more saliva and create an minty fresh
smell. We observed that gum has a strong and distinct smell, no matter the flavor and also that gum is very
malleable, especially at the peak of its chewing period. However, the gum can harden easily if left
unchewed.
4. QUESTION & HYPOTHESIS
For this lab our question was: What gum has the most flavor? If we chew different brands of gum, then
Juicy Fruit will have more flavour because its brand thats often known for its flavor.
5. MATERIALS
Gum

Stopwatch

Dentyne
Trident
Wrigley
Juicy Fruit

6. PROCEDURE

Acquire gum
Take 1 stick of gum from 4 different brands.
Chew each piece one at a time.
Time how long you chew until its flavor dissipates.
Record the data.
Repeat with a different stick of gum.

The pattern is analogise to our data. Our pattern shows that, based on our test, Juicy Fruit lasted the
longest and Trident lasted the least amount of time. The pattern is supported by the Juicy Fruit gums flavor
lasting 8 minutes and Trident gums flavour lasting 30 seconds.
8. CONCLUSION
Our hypothesis was supported by the data because Juicy Fruit did indeed last the longest, at a time of 8
minutes. A few possible errors include miscalculating the time and using previous gum sticks twice or
thrice. However, I think our results are conclusive because we took our time and repeated the test to
ensure better results. One inference Ive made in over the course of this lab is that Juicy Fruit made their
gum last longer for better business. I wonder if its possible to add more of a lifespan to the flavor of gum
and whether or not flavor affects other aspects of the gum.
