    However,untilIsatdownwithmygrandfathersoontobe86,forthisproject,Iwasunawareof
    thedetailswhichbringthestoryofmyfamilyssufferingundercommunismtolife.Thereality
    ofithelpedmerealizetheinfuriatingeffectsofcommunism.
    SinceIwasbornandraisedhereintheUnitedStates,forawhile,ItookourGodgiven
    libertiesforgranted.Forexample,ourConstitutionguaranteesthefreedomofspeech,religion,
    expression,andtherighttobeararms.Thismakesitdifficulttorealizethatmanyplacesdonot
    havenearlyasmanyrightsaswedo.Itisevenmorehurtfultorealizethatcommittingminescule
    crimes,suchassimplylisteningtoaradiostationanddiscussingthenewsbroadcastedfromit,
    ledtothedestructionoftherestofmyfamilybeforemygeneration.
    However,itisrewardingtobeabletosharethestoryofourfamilysordeal.Thisserves
    asawarningtoeveryonethatfreedomisaveryfragilegiftwhichmustalwaystrytomaintain.
    Individualrightsandfreedommustbeprotectedagainstallcosts.
    ThetragedybroughtonbytheRussians,throughsocialism,quicklyturnedcommunism,
    andtookoveralargepartoftheworld.InEasternEurope,Communismdestroyedfamiliesand
    livesforoverfiftyyears.Itallbegan,asitoftendoes,withtheconfiscationofthepeoplesarms.

    Then,itexpandedtocontrollingthepeoplebyforce,imprisonment,andexecutions,alldirected
    byalargedictatorialgovernmentwhichtookovereveryaspectoflife.
    Afterlearningaboutthepainbroughtontomyfamily,alongwithmillionsofothers,itis
    clearthatitismyresponsibilitytospeakagainsttheleft,communism,and,therefore,socialism.
    Historyrepeatsitself,andwemustalldowhatwecantopreserveourwayoflifeandpreventthe
    confiscationofourfreedoms.
