Positive Space:Your subject
Negative Space: The area surrounding your subject

feeling of stability (symmetrical: same on both sides,
asymmetrical: similar but not exactly the same)

Emphasis - elements used to create visual


dominance or a focal point.

Contrast - a difference between elements


to create a more dynamic composition (light/dark,
warm/cool, big/small, empty/full)

Movement - combining elements to direct the


viewers eye or create the look of action (visual movement)

Repetition - combining elements again and


again to create a visual rhythm or beat

Proportion - refers to size and scale; the


relationship between objects, or parts of a whole.
