STEC RECAPS STATE OF THE STATE ADDRESS

A statement from Assemblyman Dan Stec (R,C,I-Queensbury)

I believe that the governor definitely hit the mark with a few of his proposals at todays
State of the State Address, but he fell short on some key issues.
Small businesses are the backbone of our communities and they deserve tax relief. The
governors tax relief proposals should be a breath of fresh air for small business owners in the
North Country.
Im also pleased that Gov. Cuomo is making an effort close the Gap Elimination
Adjustment (GEA), which has crippled our public school districts, but we need to completely
eliminate the GEA this year. Our schools cannot wait another year to bring back the valuable
extra-curricular activities and staff that were cut in past years.
Protecting our environment has always been a top priority for me and this year is no
different. Im looking forward to seeing his environmental proposal carried out so we can combat
aquatic invasive species in our waterways.
Gov. Cuomos plan to leave pension forfeiture reform in the hands of the legislative
leaders has failed in the past and will most likely fail again. His lack of commitment and
leadership on the issue allowed Assembly Democrats to vote against pension forfeiture last year.
