Lesson Plan- Fractions

Standards:
Iowa Core 6.NS.A.1
Interpret and compute quotients of fractions, and solve word problems involving division of
fractions by fractions, e.g., by using visual fraction models and equations to represent the
problem.
L.6.6
Acquire and use accurately gradeappropriate general academic and domainspecific words and
phrases; gather vocabulary knowledge when considering a word or phrase important to
comprehension or expression.
Activities:
Packet of review questions talking about major ideas of the book, a series of questions asking
about major themes of the story. Included is also a question for evaluation where the student can
consider character growth and development in the story.
Before going through the worksheet with the student, look at the underlined vocabulary words
and define them if the student is not sure what they mean. Also ask the student to pay attention to
the verbs which are bolded in each of the sentences to use as directions.
Assessment:
This is a formative assessment for students in the area of fractions. This was designed to
determine the students understanding of key math vocabulary terms such as simplify, improper
fraction, mixed number, and others such as representation. This lesson also allows students to
show their understanding of concepts and their ability to apply those concepts to determine how
to solve novel problems.
