Surface anatomy and regions of the neck.


Muscles of neck: superficial and deep muscles, supra- and infrahyoid,
superficial and deep muscles of the posterior neck, suboccipital muscles, fascial
spaces of the neck (anterior middle and posterior space of the neck, previsceral
space, retrovisceral space, prevertebral space).
Triangles of neck: scalenovertebral triangle, anterior and posterior triangle of
the neck, submandibular triangle, submental triangle, muscular triangle, carotid
triangle, ), anterior and posterior muscular fissure.
Spinal nerve, cervical plexus, CN XI.
Superficial venous drainage.
Topographical and Clinical Anatomy: anterior and posterior scalene fissure.
Muscular torticollis.
Larynx: morphology, laryngeal cavity, cartilagines, laryngeal joints, laryngeal
muscles, innervations, vasculature, function, topography. Action and function
of laryngeal muscles.
Pharynx: morphology, innervation, blood supplying. Esophagus. Trachea.
Thyroid gland and parathyroid gland: morphology, innervations, vasculature,
topography.
CN X; vessels of neck (subclavian artery, carotid arteries, carotid sinus and
body, jugular veins), carotid sheath. Skin innervation.
Topographical and Clinical Anatomy: Peripharyngeal space, parapharyngeal
space, pre- and retrostyloid compartment. Aspiration of foreign bodies
(cricothyrotomy, thyroidectomy, tracheotomy and tracheostomy), jugular
venous pulse, central venous puncture (CVP) and catatherisation. Injury to
laryngeal nerve. Hoarsensess of voice. Thyreoglossal duct.
Clinical anatomy of the neck. Radiological anatomy: X-ray, CT and MR.
Root of the neck. Autonomic nervous system: cervical part of sympathetic
trunk (superior, middle and cervicothoracic ganglion), visceral plexus and
ganglia, craniocervical part. Lymphatics: truncs and ducts, vessels and nodes.
Clinical anatomy of neck: lesion of cervical sympathetic trunk, Horners
syndrome, lesion of cervical nerves, clinical classification of the neck
lymphatics. Infection of the neck spreading, retropharyngeal abscess.
