Theater Arts/Stage Props Syllabus 2015-2016


Teacher:
I am Sara Farrington and I graduated from Coastal Carolina University with a Bachelors in
Visual Arts and a Masters in the Art of Teaching. This is my sixth year teaching and my
fourth here at Green Sea Floyds Middle school. I am eager to begin a new year in the
Green Sea community.
Course Description:
This will be our fourth year with a theater arts program in the GSF Fine Arts Department.
The students in this class are responsible for building and creating the set design and
stage props for the middle school production of The Lion King. Students enrolled in this
class are upon approval only; because of the elite nature of this class, students are
expected to be on their best behavior and work hard every day to fulfill their job for their

Grading:
Quality of Stage Prop & Set Design: 50%
Cleanliness of Supplies & Room: 30%
Participation: 20%
Students will be assigned projects in groups or pairs. It is their responsibility to maintain
contact with the teacher about what materials they need and how they will complete
their assignment. Some assignments will take more of the semester while others will be
faster. It is the students responsibility to ask what they can do next when their
assignment is complete. Students are also asked to document their progress.

No food in the classroom.


No cell phones or electronic devices.

Consequences
1. Warning: Quick warning directly to the
student.
2. Removed from the Group: Student sits
apart from the group and is asked to
reflect. Invited back when behavior
improves.
3. Contact Parent: either a phone call
home or letter sent home to be
signed. Student must address the
issue and create a solution to the
problem.
4. Discipline Referral: sent to the
assistant principals office.
