Northern Avenue Bridge Options

1. Rehabilitate to a raised, three barrel fixed bridge - $ 70 ++ million
o Bridge has 3 barrels
o Need to justify the transportation need to receive federal funds
o US Coast Guard has to approve the raised/fixed concept independent public
outreach process

2. New 60 fixed bridge - $ 60 +/- million

Carries vehicular, bicycle and pedestrian traffic


Two 10 sidewalks + 40 roadway
Raised to allow navigational traffic; fixed bridge
Same width of existing bridge
Includes cost of demolition of existing bridge ($15 million)

o Middle barrel of bridge to carry pedestrian traffic and designed to carry multimodal traffic
o Bridge decks in outside barrels of the swing span removed to lessen the bridge
weight
o Pedestrian gathering places in outside barrels of the fixed section
o Bridge opens to navigational traffic

3A. Rehabilitated and Movable Lite Bridge with sidewalks

$ 26-$ 31 +/- million


o Middle barrel (20) is multi-purpose use, designed to carry multi-modal (buses,
taxis, cars, bicycles, shuttle buses, trolleys, etc.) traffic.
o Middle barrel has cantilevered 10 sidewalks
o Bridge decks in outside barrels of the swing span removed to lessen the bridge
weight
o Pedestrian gathering places in outside barrels of the fixed section
o Bridge opens to navigational traffic

4. Demolition/Removal of bridge - $15 +/- million


o Necessary option if bridge has deteriorated to be a safety hazard to navigational
traffic

5. Rehabilitate to a movable one-barrel bridge - $35 +/- million


o Single 20 rehabilitated barrel with cantilevered 10 sidewalks
o Designed to carry vehicular traffic
o Bridge opens to navigational traffic

6. Rehabilitate to a raised, one barrel fixed bridge - $ 45 +/- million


o Single 20 rehabilitated barrel with cantilevered 10 sidewalks
o Designed to carry vehicular traffic
