Invasion of The Body Snatchers (1956)

INT. BASEMENT - NIGHT

TWO MEN SIT NEXT TO EACH OTHER ON THEIR COUCH. SEAN RODWITSKI
- MID 20S, SUCCESSFUL, CONFIDENT, HARD WORKER, HANDSOME. JIM
SLOSSEN - MID 20S, LAZY, CHUBBY, CHARMING, VERY SMART AND
SUCCESSFUL ONLY WHEN HE APPLIES HIMSELF.
Invasion of The Body Snatchers (1956) is playing on the TV in
front of them.
JIM
What um...Whatre we watching?
SEAN
Invasion of The Body Snatchers.
What?

JIM

SEAN
Jim, its an American Movie
Classic.
JIM
When did this come out?
1956.

SEAN

JIM
Why are we watching a movie from
1956?
SEAN
Its not a movie its a film - a
very important one at that.
JIM
Oh its a film now, why is you film
so important.
SEAN
The underlying themes of communism
and socialism paralleled fears held
by the masses at the time of the
release... Plus, Jeff Goldblums
career started thanks to this film.
JIM
Oh, Jeff Goldblum is in this? Long
live the Blum!

2.
SEAN
No, hes not in this version, hes
in the remake.
JIM
Thats so lazy - making a remake.
When did the remake come out
1978.

SEAN

JIM
The Blum is better than some lousy
remake.
SEAN
The Blum was a young actor at
the time, willing to take any job
the industry was offering.
JIM
Why are you talking like that.
Like what?

SEAN

JIM
Rigid, stiff, emotionless. You
sound like an automated message.
The Blum was a young actor at the
time, willing to take any job the
industry was offering.
SEAN
I dont know what youre talking
about. This is my normal speaking
voice and a horrible impressionJIM
This is my normal speaking voice
and-
Enough.
Enough.

SEAN
JIM

SEAN
Thats real mature.
JIM
Thats real mature.

3.
SEAN
Are you just going to copy
everything I say?
JIM
Are you just going to copy
everything I say?
SEAN
Ok, I guess were doing this.
JIM
Ok, I guess were doing this.
SEAN
You can have the last piece of
Pizza.
JIM
Awesome, thanks.
EXT. P STREET HOME - SAME
A group of people walk by - clearly intoxicated.
INT. P STREET HOME - SAME
JIM
I think its so lazy when films are
remade.
SEAN
I mean, the argument could be made
that its what Hollywood does best.
JIM
Argue away.
SEAN
Well, you could argue that
Hollywood is best when it borrows
ideas and themes from other films
then morphs it into something
completely new.
JIM
OK, I get that... But what argument
could be made for movies and shows
that simply copy and paste an idea
that has worked in the past? Like
how Star Wars: The Force Awakens
was a total rip off of A New Hope.

4.
SEAN
Well yeah... THATS Lazy. I mean
stealing an entire premise from a
movie that already enjoyed box
office success. At some point
enough is enough with the Logics
of Safety.
JIM
I HATE it when movies do that.
SEAN
Its theft.
How so?

JIM

SEAN
Someone sat down and spent a chunk
of their lives creating the premise
for this movie and then some asshole aspiring screenwriter comes
along 40, 50, maybe 60 years later long enough for everyone to forget
about the original - spruces up the
dialogue, shoots it in HD, then
markets it to the younger
generation. As if we cant see
through his bullshit.
Beat.
JIM
Total bullshit.

SEAN (CONT'D)
Total bullshit.
