GENERAL:

The electric power generation plant consists of:

-

one shaft generator, 1400 kW el

three diesel generators, 570 kw el each

one harbour/emergency generator, 550 kW el

The vessel is equipped with a pitch controlled propeller which makes it possible to run the
main engine with the shaft generator in all states except harbour and emergency case.
The busbar is split in two parts making it possible to run part of the consumers on shaft
generator and part of the consumers with traditional diesel generator.
For the reefer trade as the worst case scenario a fault of any one generator is analysed. The
shaft generator as the unit with the highest capacity it is considered to be out of service during
reefer trade. The remaining diesel generators are capable of supplying the vessel and about
109 reefers with the agreed consumption of abt. 9.7kW each. Therefor loading should be
restricted to about 109 reefer.

Explanation of Calculation
N = Number of consumers
K = Number of generators
i = state [cruise, maneouvre, cruise with reefer, harbour, emergency]
n = consumer

PN n is nominal power of consumer n

Positive digits are consumers, negative digits are generators.

DFn is demand factor of consumer n (

Re quired Power
)
PN n

SFn,i is simultaneous factor of consumer n in state i

The average power consumption in state i is calculated as follows:

Pavi = n=1 ( PN n * DFn * SFn,i )

N

The average intermittent load is calculated as follows :

Pavii = n =1 ( PN n * SFn ,i * DFn ) where 0 < SFn,i < 1

N

(Consumer neither off nor permanent on)

The maximum intermittent load is calculated as follows:

P max ii = n =1 ( PN n * DFn ) where 0 < SFn,i < 1

N

(Consumer neither off nor permanent on. The simultaneous factor for these consumers is considered as 1.0 in
this case)
The generated power in state i is calculated as follows:

P

K

The spinning reserve at state i is calculated as follows:

gsr=
P
The relative load is at state i calculated as follows:

Pri =

Pavi
Pgeni

The maximum load at state i is calculated as follows:

P max i = Pavi + P max ii Pavii

The max. intermittent overload is calculated as follows:

rP
ntg
=
Positive values indicates overload, negative values spinning reserve.
