As a student enrolled in Biology at Cy-Fair College, I agree to use good laboratory safety practices at all times.
I will:
1. Be aware of the location of safety equipment such as fire extinguishers, eye washes, fire blankets and first
aid kits.
2. Never bring food or drink into the lab.
3. Wash my hands before and after performing laboratory experiments.
4. Never place chemicals, pens, pencils, glassware, etc in my mouth, nor apply makeup, while in the
laboratory.
5. Read the labels on containers before using their contents.
6. Dispose of chemicals as directed by the instructor. At no time will I pour anything down the sink without
prior instruction.
7. Report all accidents, including chemical spills, to the instructor immediately. Never try to conceal an
accident or spill.
8. Dispose of broken glass and/or sharps only in the designated container for said items.
9. Read the assigned lab prior to attending class.
10. Keep my bench area free of clutter during an experiment.
11. Keep long hair and loose clothing constrained during experimentation. Understand that open-toed shoes
pose a hazard during laboratory classes and that contact lenses are an added
safety risk.
12. Use care at all times when handling dissection equipment.
13. Wear gloves and/or safety glasses when appropriate.
14. Clean my work area and all glassware before leaving the lab room.
15. Conduct myself in a professional manner, respecting both my personal safety and the safety of others in
the lab.
