Governing of

Pelton Turbine

Governing of Pelton Turbine

The quantity of water rejected from the turbine
nozzle and from striking the buckets may be
regulated in one of the following ways:

Spear Regulation

Deflector Regulation

Combined spear and deflector regulation

Spear regulation
To

and fro motion of spear inside nozzle

regulate flow by altering area.

Suitable

when fluctuation is low and relatively

large penstock feeds a small turbine.

Deflector Regulation

Deflector is generally a plate connected to oil

pressure governor by means of lever.

Plate can be brought between nozzle and

bucket thereby diverting water.

Used when supply of water is constant but

load fluctuates

Combined spear and deflector

regulation(Double Regulation)
Modern

turbines make use of combined spear

and deflector regulation.

The

spear regulates speed and deflector

arrangement regulates pressure.
