General Steps in Helping a Student for a non

counseling teacher

The focus: to provide a safe, secure

and nurturing climate in which the
child can grow as a healthy, whole
individual.
Provide an appropriate time to truly
listen to the child.
Help the person identify and clarify
the problem.

1. Provide an appropriate time to truly

listen to the child: Kim came in late for
Mrs. Browns class. She explained her
problem at home that caused her to
be late to enter the class while the
teaching and learning process is still
going on. Mrs. Brown can ask Kim to
meet her personally after the class is
finished. (more time to truly listen to
Kims detailed problem and more
private rather than discussing the
problem in front of the class)

2. Help the person identify and clarify

the problem: Mrs. Brown can suggest
ways to help Kim to overcome her
problem after Kim expressed her
feelings about it. Apart from that,
Kim will know how to react if she got
any problem occurred in the future.
