Evidence-Based Practice Reflection

Throughout the program, I have really come to understand the importance of evidencebased practice in guiding meaningful and impactful interventions. At first I did not truly
comprehend the importance of all of our assignments linked to finding and analyzing evidencebased practice. As I gained more experience and started working with clients, I came to realize
just how important evidence based research is to guide effective and efficient treatment. Working
in an acute care setting has forced me to become more efficient in my presentation of
interventions to the client. I have a very limited amount of time to help someone reach their
goals, and by using evidence based interventions I can better address the clients barriers and
help them fulfill their potential.
I have always clung to sayings like work smarter, not harder and no need to reinvent
the wheel. I know realize that being a critical consumer of evidence based research helps me to
be a smarter future clinician. I have been taught the value of thinking outside the box and then
backing those ideas with scientific evidence. The emphasis on evidence based practice is not
only a reflection that the field is becoming more embedded in healthcare, but is indicative of the
changing climate of healthcare itself. Our current healthcare system is becoming unsustainable
and it is up to clinicians to be more judicious in their choice of treatment strategies.
There will always be room to become a more effective critic of literature. By gaining
more experience in the work place, I will be able to see the bridges and gaps between evidence
based research and current practice. It will be my personal challenge to continue to advance my
skill set by staying up to date on the most current treatment options, learning what has been
found to be ineffective, and determining what skills would be best suited for the environment I
find myself in.
