The Board of Supervisors will weigh proposals aimed at ramping up the regions
fight against human trafficking.
Drawing on recommendations from a human trafficking advisory council,
Supervisor Dianne Jacob is asking the board to back efforts to: Train the local
hotel-motel industry on how to identify and report human trafficking; Enlist more
school districts in an initiative to prevent and intervene in cases of sexual slavery;
and launch a new public awareness campaign through the District Attorneys
Office called The Ugly Truth.

A recent study issued by the University of San Diego and Point Loma Nazarene
University found that sex trafficking is even more widespread than feared and
ranks as San Diegos second largest underground economy, after drug
trafficking, with an estimated $810 million in annual revenue.
