1)Objective:

This project aims in designing a Robot that can be

operated using Android
mobile phone. The controlling of the Robot is done
wirelessly through Android smart
phone using the Bluetooth feature present in it.

2)INTRODUCTION
The controlling device for the robot in the
project is a Microcontroller.
The data sent from Android mobile phone
over Bluetooth will be received by
Bluetooth module connected to
Microcontroller.
Microcontroller reads the data and decides
the direction and operates the dc motors
connected to it .
The Microcontroller is programmed used
embedded C language.

2.1)ANDROID
Android is a software stack for mobile
devices that includes an operating system,
middleware and key applications.
Android provides access to a wide range of
useful libraries and tools that can be used
to build rich applications.
Android provides different connectivity
options, including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and
wireless data over a cellular connection.

2.2)BLUETOOTH
Bluetooth is an open standard specification for
a radio frequency (RF)-based, short range
connectivity technology.
It is designed to be an inexpensive, wireless
networking system for all classes of portable
devices such as laptops, PDAs and mobile
phones.
It also will enable wireless connections for
desktop computers, making connections
between monitors, printers, keyboards, and
the CPU cable-free.

2.3)Microcontroller
The controlling device of the whole system
is a Microcontroller. Bluetooth module and
DC motors are interfaced to the
Microcontroller.
The data received by the Bluetooth module
from Android smart phone is fed as input to
the controller. The controller acts
accordingly on the DC motors of the Robot.
In achieving the task the controller is loaded
with a program written using Embedded C
language.

3)LITRETURE SURVEY
1941-Science fiction writer Isaac Asimov first
used the word "robotics", to describe the
technology of robots and predicted the rise of a
powerful robot industry.

3.1)3 GENERATIONS OF ROBOTICS

3.1.1)FIRST GENERATION
Versatran and Unimate were first robots made
commercially available in 1962 and were introduced
to Japan in 1967.

3.1.2)SECOND GENERATION
The second generation robot is approaching the
stage of practical use. This has a direct relationship
on the development of sensors and
microcomputers in recent years.

3.1.3)THIRD GENERATION
The relationship between robot and man in the
third generation can be more easily understood
when it is compared with the relationship
between a superior and subordinates.
The robots are mostly based upon the wireless
android connections.

3.2MODULES
TYPES

MODULES

SPECIFICATION

Traditional
Surveillance Bots

Individual Modules
like
GPS , Camera
Accelerometer
Etc.

Can be custom
made according to
Requirements.
Cost increases with
increase in modules

Android
Controlled Devices

Android Phone is
used which has all
the modules
built-in

Cost is very less

w.r.t the modules.
Many modules in a
phone may not be
used

3.3CONNECTIONS

Wired so range is limited

4)PROPOSED SYSTEM

To operate the Robot wirelessly using the latest Android

technology.
The controlling device of the whole system is a
Microcontroller. Bluetooth module, DC motors are interfaced
to the Microcontroller.
The data received by the Bluetooth module from Android
smart phone is fed as input to the controller.
The controller acts accordingly on the DC motors of the
Robot.
The robot in the project can be made to move in all the four
directions using the Android phone.
In achieving the task the controller is loaded with a program
written using Embedded C language.

7)FUTURE SCOPE
1. IR Sensors:

IR sensors can be used to automatically detect & avoid

obstacles if the robot goes beyond line of sight. This avoids
damage to the vehicle if we are maneuvering it from a
distant place.
2. Password Protection:

Project can be modified in order to password protect the

robot so that it can be operated only if correct password is
entered.
3.Adding a Camera(IF GSM based robot):

If the current project is interfaced with a camera (e.g. a

Webcam) robot can be driven beyond line-of-sight & range
becomes practically unlimited as GSM networks have a very
large range.
